A Little Anatomy Goes a Long Way

I became interested in becoming a PAC Consultant while I was working as a Recreation Therapy supervisor in a dementia facility. Time and time again, I would watch individuals react to persons living with dementia with disdain and frustration.

While writing my master's thesis on improving cognitive function in seniors with MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment), I realized that all of the dementia-related behaviours that family members and caregivers found so challenging could be explained.

Each time I sat with daughters and sons, sisters and brothers, I explained some of the cognitive changes that could be expected. Through an understanding of dementia from an anatomical/physiological perspective, individuals stopped reacting and began to respond.

Now, these individuals are able to separate the person they love, from the disease they hate.

I encourage you to empower your clients with information.

Also, please feel free to post any questions regarding brain changes that occur in dementia. I will do my best to answer any queries!
