More on Music

Last week, Lori spoke to the power of music in dementia care (thank you, Lori)! I quickly realized I needed to review the brain changes that occur during dementia which helps me to explain to clients why music can be so valuable in making meaningful connections.

One of my 'A-ha' moments during PAC Consultant Training was when Teepa explained why persons living with dementia are so responsive to music. As the disease progresses, the left temporal lobe, responsible for language is 'lost'; while the right temporal lobe, responsible for rhythm, is 'retained' (Left, language, lost; right, rhythm, retained).
